Bangued: The Regional Task Force on Early Voting reported a notable turnout as 66,396 residents from vulnerable sectors participated in the early voting initiative implemented by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). This system was designed to provide enhanced comfort and convenience for voters, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWD), pregnant women, and their assistors.
According to Philippines News Agency, lawyer Elenita Julia Tabangin Capuyan, the regional head of the task force, stated in a phone interview on Monday that the initiative was a success, particularly highlighting the significant voter turnout during the designated 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. voting window for the vulnerable sector. The implementation of this early voting scheme has been met with appreciation, as it prioritizes the needs and welfare of these groups.
The initial data indicates that the early voting system effectively facilitated the participation of vulnerable sector members, who expressed gratitude towards Comelec for their considerate approach. To further enhance the system for future elections, Capuyan suggested allocating a dedicated precinct for these groups at accessible locations within polling centers, such as the ground floor or front structure, to ensure ease of access.
The national task force is set to review feedback and suggestions to refine the early voting system further. Capuyan expressed satisfaction with the current turnout and emphasized the importance of ongoing assessment and improvement of the voting process to accommodate all voters better.
