Deputy PM Praises Successful Outcomes of State President’s Laos Visit

Vientiane: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has praised the recent state visit of President Luong Cuong to Laos, which took place from April 24-25, as a great success. The visit included 15 significant activities aimed at strengthening the robust ties between the two nations.

According to Lao News Agency, Son highlighted the visit’s timing, which held particular significance as it coincided with Laos’ Bunpimay New Year celebrations and Vietnam’s upcoming commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification. This milestone is also a pivotal moment in Laos’ history, marking their victory in 1975.

Son mentioned that the visit provided an opportunity to reflect on the profound history of the Vietnam-Laos combat alliance and the special solidarity established by leaders like President Ho Chi Minh and Presidents Kaysone Phomvihane and Suphanouvong. This enduring relationship, based on unity and loyalty, continues to inspire younger generations in both countries.

The visit resulted in several key agreements, including a commitment to strengthen political ties through enhanced collaboration in national defense and security. Both countries also vowed to address shared development challenges and improve economic ties by refining legal frameworks and establishing cooperation mechanisms. A notable initiative is the Vung Ang Port project, which aims to provide sea access for Laos, enhance regional connectivity, and create new development opportunities.

Education and training were also focal points, with both nations agreeing to intensify cooperation in these areas to meet their evolving needs. Additionally, President Cuong announced a 3 million USD donation from the Vietnamese Government for the construction of a district-level hospital in Vientiane province, underscoring Vietnam’s commitment to Laos’ social welfare.

Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to collaborating closely at international and regional forums, including ASEAN and the United Nations. They also emphasized the importance of implementing outcomes from recent meetings of Vietnamese, Lao, and Cambodian Party leaders to boost economic ties.

During a meeting with the Vietnamese community and businesses in Laos, President Cuong acknowledged the contributions of Vietnamese associations in supporting the interests of Vietnamese residents there.

Son concluded by emphasizing the enduring value of the Vietnam-Laos relationship and the shared commitment to advancing bilateral ties in a practical and effective manner. This cooperation contributes to building a united and self-reliant ASEAN Community, promoting peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.
