Lawmaker Supports Marcos Administration’s Railway and Infrastructure Projects

Manila: A senator on Wednesday reaffirmed support for the Marcos administration’s flagship railway and infrastructure projects, following updates from Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on the status of major transport initiatives across the country. ‘These are the same projects I’ve been advocating for over the years,’ Senator JV Ejercito said, citing the North-South Commuter Railway, the revival of the Bicol Express line, and the long-awaited Mindanao Railway, which are crucial to regional development and traffic decongestion.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ejercito acknowledged that challenges remain in right-of-way acquisition and funding but expressed confidence in the administration’s resolve. ‘With only three years left in the current administration, we really need to focus on getting things done,’ he said. Ejercito cited the importance of coordination between the executive and legislative branches to address persistent gaps in infrastructure, mass transport, and the jeepney modernization program.

He also stressed the need to secure budget allocations early, noting past experiences when flagship projects were relegated to unprogrammed appropriations. He reiterated his long-standing advocacies, particularly the railway system and the upgrade of regional airports, which, he said, are vital to stimulating economic growth. ‘That’s what our ASEAN neighbors have been doing for the past three decades,’ he said, noting the infrastructure gains of Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
