Manila: House of Representatives Speaker Martin Romualdez on Monday reminded Filipinos of the gravity and responsibility of casting their votes, calling Election Day a ‘solemn act of democracy.’ ‘Today, each Filipino has the power to shape the future of the Republic. When you cast your vote, you are not merely fulfilling a civic duty but taking part in a solemn act of democracy,’ Romualdez said in a statement.
According to Philippines News Agency, voting is more than a legal obligation, he said, noting that it reflects the conscience of each individual and a commitment to nation-building. ‘Your ballot is a declaration of conscience, a quiet but resolute affirmation of your role in building our nation,’ he said. Romualdez urged voters to approach the polls with mindfulness and integrity. ‘Let us vote not with indifference or haste but with reflection, integrity, and care. This day reminds us that democracy lives not in institutions alone but in the choices of ordinary citizens acting with extraordinary purpose,’ he said.
Every vote, he said, carries weight in shaping the country’s future. ‘Ang bawat boto ay may kapangyarihang humubog sa kinabukasan, atin itong pananagutan at paninindigan bilang mamamayang Pilipino (Each vote has the power to shape the future; it is our responsibility and commitment as Filipino citizens),’ Romualdez said. He called for an orderly and peaceful conduct of the polls. ‘Piliin natin ang katahimikan, kaayusan, at paggalang sa proseso. Sa bawat pagboto, ipinapakita natin ang ating malasakit sa bayan at ang ating hangaring mapanatiling matatag ang demokrasya (Let us choose peace, order, and respect for the process. With every vote, we show our concern for the nation and our desire to keep democracy strong),’ he said.
Romualdez also called on Filipinos to safeguard the electoral process and honor those who fought for the right to vote. ‘I urge every Filipino to protect the sanctity of this process. Let us honor those who came before us by exercising this right responsibly, with discipline and dignity,’ he said. ‘With each vote, we renew our shared responsibility for the direction of our nation. Together, through unity, vigilance, and participation, we uphold our democracy and strengthen our future. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas. Mabuhay ang bawat Pilipinong botante (Long live the Philippines. Long live every Filipino voter).’
