Vietnamese and Lao Citizens Honor President Ho Chi Minh at Savannakhet Relic Site

Savannakhet: The historical relic site dedicated to late President Ho Chi Minh in Savannakhet, Laos, is witnessing an increase in visitors as the 135th birthday of the Vietnamese leader approaches on May 19, 2025.

According to Lao News Agency, the site, which was established in 2013, marks the location where President Ho Chi Minh, under the alias Thau Chin, arrived in June 1929. During that period, he was residing in Northeastern Thailand and crossed the Mekong River from Thailand’s Mukdahan to Savannakhet township. His mission was to assess the political, economic, and social conditions to aid the revolutionary efforts for national liberation in both Vietnam and Laos.

Currently, the site serves as a significant destination for Vietnamese and Lao individuals interested in learning about Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary contributions. A delegation led by Vietnamese Consul General in Savannakhet province, Dang Thi Hai Tam, recently visited the site to pay tribute by laying a wreath in honor of Ho Chi Minh’s 135th birthday.

Accompanying the delegation were students from the Laos-Vietnam Friendship School in Savannakhet. They expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the opportunity to visit the site and learn about President Ho Chi Minh’s legacy. Nguyen Thanh Hong, a Vietnamese language teacher at the school, mentioned that the school frequently organizes trips to local historic sites to commemorate significant Vietnamese celebrations.

These educational activities aim to enhance students’ historical and cultural knowledge, motivating them to excel in their studies and contribute to national development in the future.
