Lao Delegation Honors Late Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong in Hanoi

Hanoi: A high-ranking delegation from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, led by Vice President Pany Yathortou, visited Hanoi, Vietnam, to pay respects at the national memorial ceremony for Tran Duc Luong, the former President of Vietnam. Tran Duc Luong, also a former member of Vietnam’s Politburo, passed away on May 20, 2025, at the age of 88.

According to Lao News Agency, Vice President Pany Yathortou, a member of the Politburo of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, signed a book of condolences on behalf of the Lao Party, National Assembly, Government, and the Lao Front for National Development. The message extended deepest condolences on the passing of Comrade Tran Duc Luong, acknowledging him as a steadfast revolutionary and an outstanding leader of Vietnam. The message also recognized his significant contributions to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The passing of Tran Duc Luong is regarded as a profound loss for both Vietnam and Laos. The Lao delegation shared in the grief experienced by the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the Government, the Fatherland Front, and the Vietnamese people, as well as Tran Duc Luong’s family and loved ones.
