Sanamxay: Mr. Bounserth Setthirath, Deputy Governor of Attapeu Province, visited Sanamxay District on June 14, 2025, to inspect areas affected by recent floods. He was accompanied by members of the Provincial and District Disaster Management Committees and other officials during his visit.
According to Lao News Agency, heavy rain from June 11 to 13, triggered by a tropical cyclone, caused flooding in eight villages. The rising water levels were exacerbated by additional water from Sekong Province, which contributed to the increase in the Sekong River’s water level. The floods resulted in road closures and the submersion of farmland, specifically affecting rice, corn, and cassava fields.
Mr. Bounserth directed local officials to maintain vigilant monitoring of the river. He also emphasized the importance of preparing boats, life jackets, and evacuation plans to ensure the safety of people, livestock, and belongings.
Plans are in place for the Agriculture and Forestry Office to distribute seeds and evaluate the extent of damage once the floodwaters recede.
