Cuba’s Fine Arts Museum Highlights Intersection of Graphic Humor and Literature

Havana: The gallery of Antonio Rodriguez Morey Information Center at Havana’s National Museum of Fine Arts is set to host the exhibition “Hall of Fame (1)” on July 17, focusing on personal caricature.

According to Lao News Agency, the exhibition, curated by Yahima Marina Rodriguez, offers an opportunity to explore the museum’s collection of humorous drawings. It will also feature an interaction with the text ‘David,’ a bibliographic piece accompanying the visual display.

The work ‘David,’ authored by Jose Antonio Evora and published by Letras Cubanas in 1986, delves into the rise and evolution of caricature in Cuba. It also highlights the contributions of Juan Eduardo David Posada (1911-1981) to the art form.

The institution’s Facebook profile indicates that the volume, available for consultation at the Information Center, presents research on David Posada’s creations. It includes personal caricatures and his political satire contributions to the newspaper Informacion.

The publication, divided into three chapters, connects historical context with the technical and artistic advancement of graphic humor in Cuba. It spans from the early 20th century to the early 1980s, highlighting significant events of that era.
