Vientiane: A special ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Lao Women’s Union (LWU) was held in Vientiane on July 18, with the participation of the spouses of Party and government leaders, led by Naly Sisoulith, spouse of President Thongloun Sisoulith.
According to Lao News Agency, the event also saw the attendance of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Vice President Pany Yathotou, and Aly Vongnorbountham, President of the Lao Women’s Union. The ceremony aimed to honour the legacy, achievements, and contributions of Lao women to national development and social progress over the past seven decades.
In her remarks, Ms. Naly Sisoulith highlighted the active role of the Lao Women’s Union in empowering women, promoting gender equality, and supporting the Party and government’s socio-economic development efforts. She also paid tribute to past and present members of the LWU for their dedication to advancing the rights and well-being of women across the country.
The Lao Women’s Union, established in 1955, has grown into a vital mass organization with branches nationwide, playing a central role in mobilizing women to participate in political, economic, and cultural activities. The celebration featured cultural performances, traditional music, and an exhibition showcasing key milestones in the Union’s 70-year history.
