Manila: The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) expressed full support for local government units (LGUs) offering free medical services to their constituents, describing these initiatives as vital in ensuring the public’s access to healthcare. In Quezon City, Barangay Pinyahan has rolled out its medical services, offering residents free consultations, medicines, and preventive care.
According to Philippines News Agency, similar programs are being implemented in other LGUs nationwide as part of efforts to bring health services closer to the people. The DILG emphasized that health should be a right of every citizen, and every step that makes healthcare more accessible is an investment in the dignity and resilience of communities. The department reiterated its full support for LGUs prioritizing the health of their people, noting that these efforts save lives, ease family burdens, and contribute to building a stronger nation.
The Department highlighted that such programs align with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) agenda, which focuses on social protection and responsive public services. By empowering LGUs, the government aims to ensure that no Filipino is left behind in accessing essential healthcare.
The DILG assured continued support for LGUs in sustaining and expanding community-based medical programs, reinforcing the commitment to improve public health across the nation.
