More Than 20 Foreign Leaders to Attend SCO Summit in China

Tianjin: More than 20 foreign leaders and representatives from 10 international organizations are set to attend the upcoming summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), chaired by Chinese President Xi Jinping. The summit, scheduled to take place in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, will focus on assessing the organization’s accumulated experience, establishing follow-up measures for its development, and seeking to strengthen the consensus for cooperation among member states.

According to Lao News Agency, this will be the organization’s largest summit since its founding 24 years ago. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has indicated that Xi will meet with leaders of SCO member states, observers, and dialogue partners to exchange views on multilateralism, regional security, and sustainable development.

The invited heads of state include Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, as well as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi,
among others. Xi Jinping will chair the meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States and the SCO Plus session, addressing issues such as promoting the ‘Shanghai Spirit,’ improving internal mechanisms, and enhancing multilateral cooperation.

The summit is expected to conclude with the joint signing of the Tianjin Declaration, the approval of a strategy for the next decade, and the publication of documents on cooperation in security, economics, and culture.
