Embassy of India in Vientiane Celebrates ITEC Day 2025, Showcasing India-Lao Friendship

Vientiane: The Embassy of India in Vientiane recently celebrated ITEC Day 2025, an event that underscored the robust and growing India-Lao friendship. The gathering, which hosted over 200 guests, was graced by the presence of Mr. Rohit Babbar, First Secretary (Com) and Head of Chancery, along with senior officials from the Lao government, ITEC alumni, members of the Indian diaspora, and other friends of India.

According to Lao News Agency, the ITEC Programme is a significant initiative by the Government of India, offering a wide range of training courses in various disciplines to Lao nationals, primarily targeting government officials. Over 1,500 Lao officials have benefited from these programmes, gaining expertise in crucial areas of governance and development. For the financial year 2025-26, 22 Lao candidates have already been selected for ITEC training.

The event featured testimonials from ITEC alumni, who shared their experiences of how training in India improved their professional skills and bolstered
their respective institutions in Laos. The celebration also acted as a vibrant networking platform, facilitating the exchange of ideas and exploration of future collaborations among participants from different sectors.

Rooted in the ancient Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’-the world is one family-the ITEC Programme reflects India’s inclusive approach to global development. As emphasized by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s cooperation is guided by the priorities of partner countries, focused on a demand-driven, transparent, and mutually respectful partnership model.

The evening was enriched by a traditional dance performance by the Lao National Theatre, symbolizing the enduring cultural and people-to-people connections that strengthen the India-Lao relationship. The celebration reaffirmed India’s steadfast commitment to capacity building, human resource development, and shared progress-values that continue to drive the success of the ITEC Programme and fortify the friendship between I
ndia and Lao PDR.
