Vientiane: As the XII National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) shapes the country's future course, the Lao People's Army is positioning itself for a new era of strength, professionalism, and modernization.
According to Lao News Agency, Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of National Defense and Deputy Minister of National Defense, expressed deep pride in representing the armed forces at what he described as a historic turning point for the nation. He emphasized that the XII Party Congress is not only about the next five years but about laying a clear vision toward 2055, the 100th anniversary of the Party.
Lieutenant General Saichay highlighted four major documents adopted at the Congress, calling them a scientific and practical roadmap for Laos' long-term development. These include the Third Political Program, the Political Report of the 11th Central Committee, the 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2026-2030), and the revised Party Statutes. Together, these documents aim to provide clarity, direction, and confidence for the country in a rapidly changing world.
Reflecting on the 70-year journey of the Lao People's Army, Lieutenant General Saichay noted that the Party's leadership has been the decisive factor behind the military's steady development. He emphasized the army's transformation from a force forged in struggle to one focused on safeguarding peace and stability, highlighting its growth into a disciplined, resilient, and increasingly modern institution.
Looking ahead, the Deputy Minister affirmed that the armed forces will fully implement the resolutions of the XII Party Congress, with a strong focus on modernization and readiness. Key priorities include upgrading defense capabilities, maintaining political stability and social order, and ensuring peace and safety for the people. He stressed that a strong army serves as both a shield for sovereignty and a pillar supporting economic growth and social progress.
Concluding his remarks, Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith called on all delegates to uphold their political responsibilities and contribute to the success of the Congress, marking it as a proud and historic achievement for the Party, the State, and the Lao people.
