Vientiane: The Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR) issued a statement on February 20, voicing opposition to external blockades and unilateral coercive measures, which it argues undermine international law and adversely affect civilian populations.
According to Lao News Agency, the statement was delivered by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It highlighted that such measures hinder socio-economic development in the countries they target and run counter to the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter. These principles include sovereign equality, freedom of trade, and international navigation.
The Lao PDR reiterated its support for resolutions passed by the United Nations General Assembly over the years. It called for the lifting of the economic, commercial, and financial embargoes against Cuba. Additionally, the Lao PDR urged for the immediate cessation of all unilateral coercive measures.
