Vientiane: Former Party Secretary General and State President Choummaly Sayasone participated in voting at the That Luang Tai village temple in Saysettha district, Vientiane, for the 10th National Assembly and 5th Provincial People's Councils elections on 22 February 2026.
According to Lao News Agency, Mr. Silapin Vonghachak, Party Secretary and Head of That Luang Tai village, reported that the village consists of 429 households spread over 42 units, with a total population exceeding 2,000, including over 1,000 women. Voters arrived early to exercise their democratic rights, and security measures were in place to maintain a transparent, peaceful, and safe electoral process.
Local residents expressed pride in participating in the elections, emphasizing the importance of electing representatives with intellectual competence, a commitment to national interests, and a vision for a unified and just society. One resident expressed the desire for representatives who prioritize the common good and aim for a democratic and fair society.
Beyond casting their votes, citizens urged the incoming members of the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Vientiane People's Council to address local issues proactively. Priorities included improving road infrastructure, addressing economic challenges, and resolving local grievances to ensure public well-being.
