Luang prabang: Provincial authorities said preparations are underway in all districts following surveys of potential planting areas coordinated by the Provincial Agriculture and Environment Department. Mr. Somvayphet Douangprasith, head of the department, confirmed that the province's main tree planting ceremony will take place in the watershed protection forest area of Don Kang Village. The initiative will see tamarind, cherry, and ironwood trees planted with the goal of protecting water sources.According to Lao News Agency, the main ceremony is scheduled for June 1, 2026. Districts with suitable conditions may organize activities before or after the official date to help achieve the province's target of restoring more than 300 hectares of forest land. Companies, development projects, and local communities across the province are anticipated to hold separate tree planting activities throughout the rainy season.This year, Luang Prabang has been chosen to host Laos' main national celebration for World Envi ronment Day and National Environment Day on June 5. Planned activities will include a tree planting ceremony near the Laos-China Railway station and exhibitions featuring photographs and products made from recycled waste materials. Local authorities and related sectors are tasked with organizing these events.Provincial officials have instructed sectors and communities to protect and maintain previously planted trees, replace damaged seedlings, and support long-term forest restoration efforts. Ahave called on government agencies, businesses, private organizations, and multi-ethnic communities to participate in the campaign to help meet national forest cover targets.
