Vientiane: A comprehensive training workshop is underway to enhance the management capabilities of hospital directors, executive boards, and management support teams. The initiative aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools for effective hospital governance, ultimately improving healthcare service quality, efficiency, and effectiveness while fostering public confidence in the health sector.
According to Lao News Agency, the training program encompasses six key modules: hospital administration and management, strategic planning and leadership, quality assurance and risk management, service delivery systems and human resource management, financial and budget management, and operational autonomy. Additionally, participants are receiving training in health information systems, digital technologies, pharmaceutical management, procurement procedures, emergency preparedness, and climate change response.
The workshop places special emphasis on digital transformation in healthcare, touching on areas such as cybersecurity, electronic health records (EHR/EMR), personal data protection, and telemedicine. It also focuses on medical equipment planning and procurement, technical risk management, maintenance strategies, and the development of strategic visions for hospitals spanning three to five years.
Under the chairmanship of Mr. Sisasam Ounkhamphanyavong, Deputy Director General of the Department of Organization and Personnel of the Ministry of Health, along with a representative from the French Embassy in the Lao PDR, the workshop is being held from June 9-11, 2026. Participants include representatives from five central hospitals, provincial hospitals nationwide, Hospital 103 of the Lao People's Armed Forces, 5 April Hospital, and relevant departments under the Ministry of Health.
