Moscow: Russia and Laos have signed an agreement to cooperate in the area of peaceful nuclear energy. The signing ceremony took place in the House of the Government of the Russian Federation, marking a significant step towards collaboration in the nuclear sector between the two nations. The agreement was formalized by Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev and Laos's Minister of Industry and Trade Malaithong Kommasith, with Prime Ministers Mikhail Mishustin and Sonexay Siphandone witnessing the event.
According to Lao News Agency, the intergovernmental agreement serves as a foundational document for establishing comprehensive cooperation between Russia and Laos in the nuclear field. The agreement paves the way for initiating a project aimed at constructing a Russian-designed nuclear power plant in Laos.
The initial phase of this collaboration involves conducting a preliminary feasibility study to assess the integration of the prospective nuclear power plant into Laos's energy framework. This study will explore potential configurations for the project and identify suitable regions for the plant's location. The outcomes of this study will enable the Lao government to make informed decisions regarding its nuclear energy development program.
