Savannakhet:A dedicated teacher in Savannakhet is making strides in helping students remain in school and plan their future through Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE). Ms. Sanga, who serves as the Deputy Head of the Academic Affairs Department, has been actively involved in addressing the challenges faced by young people when they lack crucial information.
According to Lao News Agency, Ms. Sanga's involvement with CSE has highlighted the risks young people face, such as early pregnancy and gaming addiction, which contribute to student dropouts. As a coordinator and master trainer, she organizes activities and ensures that students receive information in an accessible manner.
At her college, CSE is delivered through structured activities outside the formal curriculum, allowing students from various departments to come together, discuss important topics, and learn from each other. This approach has fostered a more respectful and aware student community, with a noticeable decline in early pregnancy cases.
Despite the positive impact, challenges remain as CSE is not yet fully integrated into the vocational education curriculum. Ms. Sanga hopes for its expansion, with more resources and trained teachers to support its implementation.
The work of Ms. Sanga, supported by UNFPA, underscores the importance of equipping teachers to discuss health, relationships, and respect, thereby transforming schools into protective environments for the future of young people.
