Accelerating Evacuation and Assistance Efforts in Flood-Affected Yommalat District

Yommalat: On August 27, 2025, the District Disaster Management Committee, along with the Khammuan Provincial Youth Administration Committee and members of the Taluambon Youth Organization, mobilized to aid those affected by the flooding in Yommalat District, Khammuan Province.

According to Lao News Agency, the operation was spearheaded by Mr. Khamman Sopaserd, Chief of Yommalat District, and Ms. Phetsamon Buddha, Deputy Secretary of the Khammuan Provincial Youth Administration Committee. The team included 103 members of the Taluambon Youth Organization, comprising 98 men and 5 women.

The district leadership, military, police forces, and youth organizations collaborated to evacuate residents, elderly individuals, children, and livestock to safer areas. Additionally, they assisted in relocating property and belongings from low-lying regions to higher ground, including tractors, motorcycles, household appliances, rice, and other valuables.

The District Disaster Management Committee plans to continue assessing
the damage once water levels recede and to provide ongoing support to affected families.

During the operation, Mr. Khamman Sopaserd called on village authorities and residents to remain alert and prepared for emergencies that might require relocation. He confirmed the district’s readiness with boats, military and police units, and youth volunteers to ensure timely assistance in the event of further flooding.
