Acting President Emphasizes APEC Summit as Opportunity to Enhance South Korea’s Global Standing

Gyeongju: Acting President Lee Ju-ho expressed on Thursday that the forthcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is an opportunity to elevate the Republic of Korea’s national credibility, as the nation prepares to host the multilateral gathering later this year.

According to Lao News Agency, Lee conveyed this message while leading a preparatory meeting focused on the summit’s organization, set to occur in late October in Gyeongju, a city in the southeast of the country. This marks the first time in two decades that the Republic of Korea will host the summit.

Lee emphasized the importance of the APEC summit as a platform to showcase South Korea’s leadership on a global scale and enhance its international reputation. He urged all officials to ensure meticulous preparations for the smooth and successful execution of the summit.

During the meeting, attendees reviewed recent APEC-related activities, including a high-level ministers’ meeting on Jeju Island the previous week. Discussions also covered logistics such as transportation, medical systems, and cultural events to support the summit.

Officials resolved to strengthen collaborations among relevant agencies and continue strategic efforts to invite global leaders and business figures to the summit.
