Vientiane: The ASEAN Defence Observer Group has begun a two-week mission to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand along tense border areas, reported the Khmer Times. According to Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, the observer group includes military representatives from seven ASEAN nations – Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.
According to Lao News Agency, the mission aims to observe the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and support peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region. The Defence Attaché of Malaysia, the rotating chair of ASEAN this year, is leading the team in this effort.
