Manila: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) generated PHP106.93 million in revenues from 17 public auctions of seized and abandoned goods conducted at three major ports from July to September. In a news release Sunday, the BOC said the auctions were facilitated by the Auction and Cargo Disposal Division of the Port of Manila, Manila International Container Port, and Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
According to Philippines News Agency, among the items auctioned were consumer goods, vehicles, fuel products, industrial materials, furniture, and assorted merchandise from forfeited shipments. BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno highlighted that the proceeds from these auctions contribute significantly to the bureau’s overall revenue collection, which in turn supports government funds for priority programs and essential public services.
He further stated, ‘Through the consistent conduct of lawful and transparent auctions, the bureau fulfills its dual mandate of protecting government revenues and facilitating legitimate trade.’ The successful auctions underline the BOC’s commitment to ensuring that seized goods are disposed of in a manner that maximizes revenue and supports public welfare.
