Phnom Penh: Cambodia recorded about 20,000 new cases of cancers, with nearly 14,000 deaths a year, Prime Minister Hun Manet said during the launch of the National Cancer Control Plan 2025-2030 on May 5. The plan was designed to reduce new cases and deaths from cancers, he said, adding that it would improve access to quality cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and care.
According to Lao News Agency, the PM emphasized the importance of a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein, alongside regular physical activity to mitigate cancer risks. Furthermore, he urged relevant authorities to monitor the safety and quality of food, fruits, and vegetables to prevent potential cancer-causing chemical contaminants.
Health Minister Chheang Ra highlighted that liver cancer is the most prevalent type in Cambodia, followed by lung, breast, colorectal, and cervical cancers. The comprehensive plan aims to address these specific types through targeted prevention and treatment strategies.
