China-Laos Railway Achieves Milestone with Over 14 Million Tonnes of Cargo Transported

Kunming: The China-Laos Railway has reached a significant milestone by transporting over 14 million tonnes of import and export goods since its inception in December 2021. This impressive volume of cargo has been valued at more than 60 billion yuan, equivalent to approximately 8.4 billion U.S. dollars.

According to Lao News Agency, the railway’s cross-border freight services have seen remarkable growth, with over 3.43 million tonnes of goods transported in the first seven months of this year alone. The value of these goods exceeded 15.4 billion yuan, marking year-on-year increases of 6 percent in volume and 41 percent in value, both of which are record highs for this timeframe.

The China-Laos Railway has established itself as a crucial trade corridor connecting 19 countries, including Laos, Thailand, and Singapore. The railway’s cargo structure has expanded significantly, with the number of transported commodity categories increasing from just over 500 to more than 3,600, indicating strong growth momentum a
nd a robust diversification of goods.
