Manila: The Department of Justice (DOJ) is awaiting a response from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) regarding the Philippines’ request for a ‘blue notice’ against Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, Malaca±ang said on Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro mentioned that there are no new updates regarding the whereabouts of Co. Castro stated that the DOJ has already made a request for a blue notice and is currently waiting for a response from Interpol.
Castro explained that a blue notice from Interpol aids law enforcement agencies by keeping them informed about the location and movements of a person of interest, but does not authorize arrest. She elaborated that the blue notice serves as a tracking tool to monitor where the person travels, allowing the country to be updated on the subject’s location.
Zaldy Co has been implicated in a multi-billion-peso flood control project scandal, with allegations suggesting that he received kickbacks. Reports indicate that Co may have traveled to Paris, France, after initially departing for the United States to seek medical treatment.
House Speaker Faustino Dy III formally revoked Co’s travel clearance on September 18, directing him to return to the Philippines within 10 calendar days. As of press time, Co has not yet responded to Dy’s directive.
