Manila: Vendors and other obstructions will be cleared along the walkways near the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s order to ensure an organized and quick-moving flow of passengers and pedestrians.
According to Philippines News Agency, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced that the cleanup will be a collaboration between the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). Dizon emphasized the need to balance compassion for vendors with the necessity of maintaining clear pathways for commuters.
Dizon stated that the focus of the cleanup will be on the MRT-3 north and southbound walkways. He also criticized the Metro Point Mall for charging vendors rent at the MRT-3 southbound exit, pointing out that the area is government-owned. He expressed plans to remove vendors from these locations, highlighting that they should not obstruct pedestrian pathways or be financially exploited by private entities.
