Faster Election Results Expected Amid Tech Upgrades

Manila: Filipinos can expect faster election results this year due to major technological upgrades and efforts by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to streamline transmission processes, a key poll watchdog said Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) spokesperson Ana Singson credited the speed of results transmittal to technological improvements, including 5G connectivity and the deployment of over 10,000 Starlink terminals across the country.

Singson noted that conceptually, the transmission should be faster, expressing this in mixed English and Filipino during a press briefing. The PPCRV anticipated that early transmission results could start arriving by 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Singson remarked that they expect a significant amount of votes to be received within a few hours, although she acknowledged that seeing the results would confirm the expectations. She emphasized that the faster transmission of results should not compromise the accuracy of the results.

Singson also addressed potential concerns about the speed, suggesting that advances in technology and equipment should be considered. She highlighted a strong effort at transparency with the leadership overseeing the elections.
