Vientiane: The regular government meeting for September 2025 concluded on October 9, 2025, at the Office of the Prime Minister, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone. The meeting brought together Deputy Prime Ministers, government members, and representatives from ministries and agencies, while provincial and Vientiane Capital leaders joined via teleconference to review reports on key developments in September and the government’s focused work plan for October 2025.
According to Lao News Agency, the two-day meeting featured in-depth discussions and evaluations on several key issues. These included summaries of major achievements in September, reports on significant international and regional developments, and an evaluation of the implementation of the 2025 Socio-Economic Development Plan and State Budget Plan, along with the direction for 2026. The meeting also addressed the progress in implementing the national agenda on economic and financial difficulties, the 2025 Monetary Plan, and national efforts to combat drug problems.
Further discussions covered updates on road improvement projects and preparations for major upcoming events such as the That Luang Festival and the 50th Anniversary Celebration of National Day. Additionally, the meeting reviewed a draft implementation plan responding to recommendations from the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, a draft decree on the transportation of dangerous goods, and a draft national radio frequency research plan for 2025.
In his closing remarks, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone highlighted the tense and unpredictable international and regional situations, stressing the importance of closely monitoring these developments to mitigate potential impacts on the Lao PDR. He also underscored the severe natural disasters caused by Typhoon Bualoi, which resulted in significant loss and damage, urging all sectors to prioritize recovery efforts and support affected individuals.
Looking ahead, Mr. Sonexay emphasized the need for stronger preventive measures, particularly through weather monitoring and effective water management. He encouraged government members to work collaboratively and provide practical input to ensure the successful implementation of the government’s policies and plans in the coming months.
