Lao Mass Media and Publishing Sector Marks 75 Years with National Exhibition

Vientiane: The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee’s Commission for Propaganda and Training hosted a ceremony and exhibition to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Mass Media and Publishing Day. The event marked a significant milestone in the history of Lao media, tracing back to its inception on August 13, 1950.

According to Lao News Agency, the event was graced by the presence of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, commission head Khamphanh Pheuyavong, and other notable leaders from central and local media agencies. Khamphanh Pheuyavong shed light on the 75-year journey of the mass media and publishing sector, emphasizing its role as the voice of the Party and State in promoting policies, patriotism, cultural identity, and socio-economic development. He also pointed out the sector’s adoption of modern technology to enhance the dissemination of news.

Prime Minister Sonexay acknowledged the significant contributions of Lao journalists to the nation. He emphasized the need for continued professionalism, innovation, and ethical integrity within the media sector. He also urged the media to focus on promoting national achievements and countering misinformation.

The anniversary exhibition included 31 booths from both domestic and international media outlets. Among them was the Lao News Agency (KPL), a key partner of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA). The KPL showcased the VNA’s Vietnam Pictorial, which introduces Vietnamese culture, people, and lifestyle to international visitors, highlighting the strong media partnership between Laos and Vietnam.
