Khammouane: A technical meeting on cross-border collaboration between Phou Hin Poun-Hin Nam No National Park in Laos and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in Vietnam was held at Guesthouse No. 1 in Khammouane Province, Lao PDR. This meeting, which took place on July 28, 2025, was co-chaired by Mr. Somsa-at Ounsida, Vice Governor of Khammouane Province, and Mr. Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. Representatives from relevant departments and stakeholders from both sides were also present.
According to Lao News Agency, the primary goal of the meeting was to enhance cross-border cooperation in managing and preserving the protected areas of the region. The focus was particularly on Hin Nam No National Park in Laos and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Vietnam. Discussions during the meeting involved reviewing a draft framework for future cooperation between the two parks and strengthening coordination mechanisms to
ensure effective joint management.
Additionally, the talks aimed at laying the foundation for long-term collaboration that takes into account local conditions and sustainable practices, while also reinforcing friendly relations between Khammouane and Quang Tri provinces. This meeting underscores a shared commitment to biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability, and enhanced regional collaboration.
Following the meeting, Mr. Hoang Nam and his delegation paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Vongsay Phongsavanh, Governor of Khammouane Province. The delegation also visited the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site in Xieng Vang Village, Nong Bok District. At the memorial hall, the Vietnamese delegation offered incense in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh, honoring his contributions to the Vietnamese revolution. This visit symbolized respect and the reaffirmation of deep historical ties between the people of Laos and Vietnam.
