Laos, Cuba Strengthen Ties During High-Level Visit

Vientiane: Mr. Chaleun Yiapaoheu, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of Laos and President of the Laos-Cuba Friendship Association, warmly received Mr. Gerardo Pe±alver Portal, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, and his delegation during their official visit to Laos and other Asian nations.

According to Lao News Agency, Mr. Chaleun expressed his appreciation for the visit, highlighting its importance in furthering the longstanding friendship between the two Parties, governments, and peoples of Laos and Cuba. He extended gratitude for Cuba’s historical support during Laos’ liberation struggle and its ongoing nation-building efforts, while recognizing Cuba’s achievements in socio-economic development and preserving its revolutionary legacy over the past six decades.

The meeting also celebrated 50 years of diplomatic ties between Laos and Cuba, marking this milestone with ceremonies in Houaphanh Province. Additional events included essay contests and cultural programs at the Laos-Cuba Friendship Secondary School in Dongbang and the National University of Laos, commemorating Cuban national hero Jos© Mart­.

Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in key areas such as politics, education, agriculture, and healthcare. Mr. Pe±alver praised Laos’ progress under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, noting improvements in living standards and the country’s enhanced regional and global presence.

This visit is part of ongoing exchanges between the two countries, including a recent Cuban ballet performance and a visit by a delegation from Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power, which have further solidified cultural and diplomatic relations.
