Laos Hosts Seminar on Social Protection and Digital Transformation

Vientiane: A national seminar focusing on social protection and digital transformation took place in Vientiane, organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare. The seminar was chaired by Labour and Social Welfare Minister Phosay Sayasone, who also heads the Central Social Protection Committee. The event saw participation from officials and stakeholders across relevant sectors.

According to Lao News Agency, Minister Phosay emphasized the growing priority of social protection globally and across Asia. Governments are increasingly focusing on ensuring basic security for all citizens throughout their lives, aiming to prevent poverty, exclusion, and discrimination. He highlighted the influence of international commitments, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, on shaping national strategies to reduce poverty and social inequality.

Minister Phosay further explained that Laos has integrated regional and international commitments into national policies, legislation, and successive five-year socio-economic development plans. These plans include measures such as education and workforce development, health insurance, social insurance, nutrition programs, and targeted assistance for vulnerable groups.
