Vientiane: Seeking to strengthen food security and boost commercial production nationwide, the Department of Livestock and Fisheries convened a two-day national review on February 16-17, 2026, to assess 2025 performance and set strategic directions for 2026 and the 2026-2030 development plan. The meeting was chaired by Bouahong Khamha, Director General of the department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, with participation from central and local authorities, sector specialists, and producers from Vientiane Capital and 17 provinces.
According to Lao News Agency, participants reviewed progress in livestock and aquaculture production, including the development of provincial commodity products and the implementation of commercial cattle-raising quotas. Reports assessed achievements, challenges, and corrective measures, and outlined targets for the coming period. The meeting also gathered feedback from entrepreneurs on operational conditions and policy needs, and examined technical and management issues such as balancing the supply of meat, eggs, and fish; cost and pricing methods; veterinary services; fisheries and feed management; application of sectoral regulations; and data collection and reporting.
Officials and field implementers discussed constraints at both central and local levels and agreed on coordinated measures to improve sector performance and meet future production targets.
