Manila: Wild card Tennielle Madis capped an outstanding week by ruling the Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) women’s singles Sunday, dominating top seed Kaye Anne Emana, 6-0, 6-3, at the PCA indoor shell court in Paco, Manila.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 18-year-old from M’lang, Cotabato capitalized on her experience playing on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors Circuit to overcome University of Santo Tomas’ Emana, last season’s UAAP Most Valuable Player. Madis not only excelled in the singles category but also secured the doubles title with fellow Philippine Tennis Academy member Stefi Marithe Aludo. They triumphed over Elsie Abarquez and Rovie Baulate, 6-3, 6-3, on Saturday. Additionally, Madis was the runner-up in the mixed doubles event alongside Iggy Pantino.
Reflecting on her victory, Madis expressed, “I always keep a positive attitude in every match I play. The goal is to win and I’m happy that I was able to do that today.” This victory marked a significant achievement for Madis, who had skipped last year’s edition and had previously lost to Marian Capadocia in the finals two years ago with a score of 0-6, 1-6.
In Sunday’s final, Madis quickly took control by gaining an early 2-0 lead in the second set. Although Emana managed to level the score at 3-3, Madis regained her momentum and swept the next three games to clinch the victory. Emana, reflecting on her performance, stated, “It’s our first meeting and I have no idea about her game. I tried my best but she was able to return my ball.”
Madis and Aludo have shown a strong partnership, having previously swept both legs of the J60 Phinma-ITF Championships at Manila Polo Club in Makati last July. The duo also captured four J60 titles in 2024, achieving victories in Manila, China, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
