Vientiane: The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has received the Order of Freedom, Level I, in recognition of its 60 years of development from 1965 to 2025. The prestigious award ceremony took place on December 29, 2025, in Vientiane, with Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone presiding over the event. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Linkham Douangsavanh, deputy ministers, former ministry leaders, and other officials.According to Lao News Agency, Minister Linkham Douangsavanh emphasized the historical significance of agriculture and forestry as the foundation of the livelihoods of the Lao people. He explained that the sector has transitioned from traditional subsistence practices to organized farming, livestock production, and trade. The development of the sector began in 1965, following the 13th Party Central Committee Congress, when it was formally organized to support liberated zones. A five-level administrative system was established, comprising central, provincial, dis trict, sub-district, and village levels, to coordinate production and ensure food security for both civilians and revolutionary forces.Since the establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in 1975, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has evolved into a modern state institution that contributes significantly to national economic development. The minister outlined the ministry's ongoing focus on four key priorities: ensuring food security, promoting commercial agricultural production, strengthening forestry management and environmental protection, and advancing rural development to reduce poverty.The Order of Freedom, Level I, is the highest national honor, recognizing the ministry's collective contributions over six decades to national development and public welfare.
