Vientiane: The Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR (MoES), in partnership with the Australian Government, is producing a series of awareness-raising videos aimed at strengthening child protection and safeguarding practices in schools across the country. From February 16-19, 2026, MoES and Australia, through the Basic Education Quality and Access in the Lao PDR (BEQUAL) Program, are convening a four-day 'Child Protection and Safeguarding Script Writing' workshop. The workshop brings together media and video production teams from various MoES divisions and representatives from the Australian Embassy in Laos.

According to Lao News Agency, Mr. Michael Currie, First Secretary at the Australian Embassy, emphasized the important role teachers play in creating safe learning environments. He highlighted Australia's ongoing support for MoES in developing Child Protection and Safeguarding Guidelines and expressed satisfaction with the partnership's continuation through this video project. He reaffirmed Australia's dedication to upholding children's rights and maintaining a zero-tolerance stance on child exploitation, abuse, and harm.

The workshop includes practical exercises such as scenario development and role-play to prepare for directing actors, along with guidance on consent and privacy protocols for filming. Trainers will focus on culturally appropriate, non-graphic portrayals that promote positive, protective action.

BEQUAL, a program led by the Lao Government and supported by both the Australian and United States Governments, aims to improve educational outcomes for young people, especially those vulnerable or disadvantaged, while promoting gender equality and inclusive education.
