Ulaanbaatar: A total of 11,484 foreigners were granted Mongolian e-visas in the first five months of 2025, marking an increase of 2.8 times compared to the same period last year, local media reported on Monday, citing Mongolia’s Immigration Agency.
According to Lao News Agency, during this period, Mongolia’s immigration agency issued 12,268 residence permits and extended 14,430 residence permits, with the issuance of residence permits increasing by 76.3 percent. This surge in e-visa issuance and residence permits aligns with Mongolia’s efforts to boost its tourism sector, which is considered a key area for economic diversification beyond its traditional reliance on mineral resource exports.
The Mongolian government has decided to continue its “Years to Visit Mongolia” tourism program until 2028. This decision underscores the country’s commitment to attracting more visitors and enhancing its tourism infrastructure.
Mongolia launched its e-visa system on October 1, 2021. Since the beginning of 2025, the country has attracted a total of 226,364 foreign tourists, according to the Mongolian Tourism Organization. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to make Mongolia a more accessible and appealing destination for international travelers.
