One Health Workshop Enhances Food Safety Communication in Mongolia

One Health Workshop Enhances Food Safety Communication in Mongolia

Mongolia: Representatives from 15 organizations across Laos PDR, Mongolia, the United Republic of Tanzania, and Vietnam convened in the Mongolian countryside from July 4th to 6th to enhance their risk communication skills for food safety issues. The workshop aimed to bolster communication strategies as part of the One Health for Food Safety project, which is funded by the Republic of Korea.

According to EMM, the initiative focuses on applying risk analysis to manage high-priority foodborne diseases and improve collaboration across sectors and along the food chain. Effective risk communication, being one of the three pillars of risk analysis, is crucial for addressing food safety concerns. Each participating country brought its unique challenges to the table—Mongolia is targeting a reduction in Salmonella in meat, Laos PDR is tackling the prevalence of liver flukes, Tanzania is working on controlling Brucella spp. in milk, and Vietnam is focusing on lowering risks from Streptococcus suis infections.

During the workshop, participants developed tailored risk communication plans specific to their country’s food safety issues. The training emphasized identifying target audiences, crafting clear messages, and choosing effective communication methods and channels to ensure impactful dissemination of food safety information.
