Bacolod city: Property giant Megaworld Corp. is positioning The Upper East, a 34-hectare mixed-use township located at the heart of Bacolod City, as a major tourist destination. Megaworld has already launched 1,787 residential condominium units among the five properties in The Upper East.
According to Philippines News Agency, construction is ongoing for the 12-story, 300-room The Kingsford, the first development by Megaworld Hotels and Resorts in Bacolod City. Harold Geronimo, first vice president and head of public relations and media affairs of Megaworld, shared that more tourism facilities are expected to rise within the township in the coming years. “We really envision The Upper East not just as a central business district, but also as a tourist destination. Our vision is always aligned with tourism,” Geronimo said during a media briefing over the weekend, announcing the completion of the 14-story One Manhattan, the township’s third residential condominium development.
One Manhattan is the first smart home condominium development in Bacolod City and features several ‘first-in-Bacolod’ amenities, such as a private dining room designed to accommodate up to 15 people, along with a kitchen and living area. Megaworld Bacolod head of sales and marketing, Jennifer Fong, noted that the demand for residential condominiums in The Upper East remains high. “We are especially excited to welcome the new residents of One Manhattan who will now enjoy the convenience of being in a township as well as the generous layouts and unique amenities of their new address,” she said.
Geronimo expressed gratitude to the city government, led by Mayor Greg Gasataya, for naming Megaworld as a private sector representative to the City Tourism Council. “We want to help boost Bacolod tourism. We want more people to come, more people to visit, more people to enjoy what Negros and Bacolod can offer,” he stated.
In a separate interview, Councilor Jason Villarosa, chair of the City Council Committee on Tourism, welcomed the city’s partnerships with the private sector in tourism development initiatives. “Especially with Megaworld, one of the biggest real estate developers in the Philippines. I’m very happy they will position The Upper East as a tourist destination in Bacolod City. We will definitely work closely with them for whatever help the city can provide,” he remarked.
