Quang Ngai Doctors to Train Lao Counterparts in Pediatric Anesthesia Techniques

Quang ngai: Doctors from Quang Ngai 2 General Hospital in the central province will provide training and transfer pediatric anesthesia techniques to colleagues from the Attapeu Provincial Hospital in Laos. Under the three-month program, Vietnamese specialists will offer hands-on instruction and technology transfer to Viengkhon Manivong and other doctors from Attapeu. Once the Lao doctors master the procedures, the Quang Ngai team will travel to Attapeu to complete the transfer and provide on-site guidance.

According to Lao News Agency, Le Huu Loi, Deputy Director of Quang Ngai 2 General Hospital, mentioned that the initiative is part of a memorandum of understanding between the two hospitals. The Vietnamese hospital has been conducting training and technology transfer programs to help Attapeu Hospital enhance its capacity, especially in anesthesiology, an area where the Lao hospital still faces challenges.

Previously, doctors from Quang Ngai assisted their Lao counterparts in performing general anesthesia. The current phase focuses on pediatric anesthesia and will later expand to address complex diseases. Nuphit Phonsavan, Deputy Director of Attapeu Hospital, stated that while the hospital can perform anesthesia for adults, it lacks the equipment and expertise for children under five. Consequently, pediatric patients have been transferred to Champasack Hospital, over 200 kilometers away, causing hardship for families.

Nuphit expressed hope that after the training in Quang Ngai, Attapeu doctors will be able to perform the procedures independently, allowing for local treatment of young patients and saving time and costs for families. He also suggested further medical training and technology transfer to improve healthcare services in Attapeu.
