Seoul: The Republic of Korea is set to host the second round of the high-level preparatory meeting next month for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, as announced by the foreign ministry on Tuesday. The Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) for the multilateral gathering is scheduled to take place on the southern resort island of Jeju from May 3-16.
According to Lao News Agency, the meeting will gather approximately 3,000 government delegates and representatives from private sectors across the 21 APEC member economies. The Republic of Korea plans to use this opportunity to emphasize key agenda items it has proposed for this year’s summit, focusing on cooperation in artificial intelligence and responses to demographic changes.
Coinciding with the SOM will be ministerial meetings on finance and trade, along with a series of conferences addressing economic and technology cooperation, women, and economic policy partnerships. These discussions aim to foster collaboration and address pressing issues among the member economies.
Additionally, three more SOM sessions are anticipated before the main summit in November, highlighting the ongoing commitment to dialogue and cooperation within the APEC framework.
