Singapore to Build Most Efficient Hydrogen-Compatible Natural Gas Power Plant

Vientiane: The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore announced the awarding of a contract to electricity generator PacificLight Power to build a hydrogen-compatible natural gas power plant on Jurong Island.

According to Lao News Agency, PacificLight Power stated that the project, costing approximately 1 billion USD, will be the largest single and most efficient combined cycle gas turbine facility in Singapore. The plant will have a capacity of at least 600MW, sufficient to power more than 864,000 four-room flats for a year.

The facility, upon commencement of operations, will be capable of burning at least 30% hydrogen-a cleaner fuel-alongside natural gas to generate electricity. In the future, the plant will have the capability to burn 100% hydrogen, aligning with the power sector’s efforts towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
