Kuala lumpur: Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, effective from midnight, after five days of border clashes. The announcement followed mediation talks in Malaysia, chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
According to Lao News Agency, the meeting in Kuala Lumpur resulted in both countries reaching a common understanding on an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. The ceasefire was declared to be effective from 24:00 on July 28.
The talks were attended by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai. This marked a critical opportunity to help end the conflict between the two Southeast Asian neighbours and explore a diplomatic solution to ongoing border tensions.
