Tropical Depression to Impact Northern and Central Laos

Vientiane: A tropical depression, situated near 16.3°N latitude and 112.9°E longitude as of 8:00 a.m. on August 29, 2025, is making its way northwest at a speed of approximately 20 km/h. The storm is predicted to make landfall later on the same day, bringing with it significant rainfall on August 29-30, 2025, before it weakens while moving inland.

According to Lao News Agency, the tropical depression is set to affect several provinces in northern and central Laos from August 29-31, 2025. The areas anticipated to experience the storm’s impact include Luang Prabang, Vientiane Capital, Luang Namtha, Oudomxay, Phongsaly, Bokeo, Sayaboury, Xieng Khouang, Xaisomboun, and Vientiane Province.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, has issued a warning to the public, with a particular focus on residents of Vientiane Capital. People are advised to take precautionary measures against potential flooding. Those residing near rivers, streams, and low-lying areas are encouraged to remain vigilant to safeguard their safety and property.
