Hanoi: Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam Le Minh Tri and his Lao counterpart Viengthong Siphandon have agreed to bolster cooperation among all court levels in both countries. This decision came during their discussions in Hanoi on October 28.
According to Lao News Agency, Tri emphasized that Viengthong’s visit further strengthens the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. The visit also aims to open more practical, effective, and deeper avenues of judicial cooperation between the two nations.
The talks included a review of the positive outcomes from recent collaborations between the Vietnamese and Lao court systems. Both parties shared updates on their respective judicial reforms and deliberated on renewing the cooperation agreement between the two Supreme Courts, initially signed in 2008. They also discussed enhancing collaboration among local courts, especially in light of Vietnam’s administrative unit reorganisation.
The two sides agreed on the importance of enhancing ties among all-level courts, promoting the use of online platforms for sharing documents and expertise, and jointly addressing cases with cross-border elements.
In a gesture of support, the Vietnamese official presented ten laptops to the Supreme People’s Court of Laos. Tri affirmed that the Vietnamese Supreme People’s Court remains committed to supporting its Lao counterpart by sharing experiences in judicial reform, training personnel, and advancing IT applications and digital transformation.
