2 Injured in Abra Shooting Incident on Election Day

Bangued: The Philippine National Police has confirmed a shooting incident on election day in Bangued, which resulted in two individuals being injured. Both were transported to Seares Memorial Hospital and are currently in stable condition, according to Col. Daniel Pel-ey, Abra Provincial Police Office information officer, who addressed the media in a press conference.

According to Philippines News Agency, the incident occurred near Sagap Elementary School in Barangay Sagap around 7 a.m., prompting a response from the municipal police and the provincial quick reaction team. Witnesses reported hearing two gunshots before seeing a gray pick-up and a white Montero vehicle speeding toward Bangued town proper. At 8:30 a.m., the municipal police received a call from Seares Memorial Hospital confirming that two individuals with gunshot wounds had been brought in for medical attention.

Col. Pel-ey stated that the municipal police station is actively investigating the incident, utilizing CCTV footage from nearby roads in hopes of obtaining more information. The investigation aims to determine the motive behind the shooting and ensure justice for those injured. Pel-ey also addressed social media claims of additional shooting incidents in Pidigan and Tayum, dismissing them as false information.

In response to concerns regarding the alleged relocation of a polling center in Tineg municipality, Pel-ey mentioned that verification is still underway due to the location’s distance. Meanwhile, Abra election officer lawyer Nicasio Jacob clarified in a separate interview that voting was simply moved to a front room to enhance comfort for voters.

Pel-ey assured the public that government law enforcers are conducting aerial patrols in areas under security monitoring. He emphasized that while the situation cannot be deemed entirely peaceful due to ongoing reports, efforts are being made to ensure the safety of all residents.
