Manila: Two weather systems will bring rains in some parts of the country, the weather bureau said Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported in its 5 a.m. bulletin that the trough of a low pressure area (LPA) situated 460 kilometers west of Coron, Palawan, will result in cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the regions of Mimaropa, Bicol, Batangas, and Quezon.
The weather bureau further explained that the LPA is not anticipated to develop into a tropical cyclone and may soon dissipate or exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
In a related warning, PAGASA highlighted that 15 areas will experience a “danger level” heat index. Infanta, Quezon, is expected to face a peak heat index of 45°C, while other areas such as NAIA in Pasay City, Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, and Dagupan City in Pangasinan, among others, will see heat indices ranging from 42°C to 44°C. The heat index measures the temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity is combined with the actual air temperature.
PAGASA cautioned that prolonged exposure to ‘danger’ levels of 42°C to 51°C heat index could heighten the risks of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
