China and Myanmar Ink Cooperation Agreement for 2025 LMC Special Fund

Nay pyi taw: The signing ceremony for the 2025 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund project cooperation agreement was held in Myanmar’s capital Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday, as stated in a release by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar. Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ma Jia and Myanmar’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ko Ko Kyaw finalized the agreement, marking a significant step in LMC cooperation projects.

According to Lao News Agency, Ma Jia highlighted the importance of the 14 projects under the 2025 LMC Special Fund, which are set to support Myanmar’s development in sectors including agriculture, environmental protection, science and technology, culture, education, and disaster prevention. Ma emphasized China’s willingness to enhance cooperation with Myanmar, utilize the funds effectively, and work towards building a China-Myanmar community with a shared future, ultimately benefiting both nations.

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, also a member of Myanmar’s State Security and Peace Commission, expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support. He acknowledged the efforts made by China to provide funding and share development opportunities with Myanmar. Since 2018, Myanmar has benefited from the LMC fund with support for 132 projects across eight batches, making it the largest Mekong country in terms of project approvals.
