Vientiane:Lao Telecommunications Public Company and the National University of Laos have entered a 15-year agreement to enhance telecommunications infrastructure, focusing on the integration of information technology and artificial intelligence in education and research.

According to Lao News Agency, the agreement was formalized in Vientiane on October 8, 2026, with Lao Telecom Managing Director Suphone Chanthavixay and NUOL Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phouphet Kyophilavong signing the documents.

The project, planned in five phases, aims for completion by 2030. It seeks to improve both mobile and fixed broadband coverage, ensuring faster and more reliable digital access for lecturers, students, and university staff. Additionally, the initiative will enhance network security and support the integration of ICT and AI into teaching, learning, and academic research.

This cooperation is part of broader efforts to modernize higher education infrastructure and extend the use of digital technologies in Laos.
